The students and faculty of Avanthi Institute of Engineering and Technology came together to celebrate the pre-Pongal festivities with great enthusiasm on 11.1.2024. The celebration was organized by the students and faculty of the institute and it witnessed active participation from all departments. The celebration started with a prayer song by students. It was followed by traditional ritual of Rangoli making. Students showcased their creativity by designing intricate rangolis, which added to the festive mood of the event. The campus was decorated with colorful lights, streamers, and balloons, which further added to the festive ambience. Several games and events like village set up, poster presentation, pot paint, cow decoration, bhommala koluvu, kabaddi, mehandi, rangoli, cow decoration, poster presentation, spot paint, pot paint, skipping, tennis quoits, tug of war were organized to make the celebration more engaging. Students participated in various traditional dress competition and danced to the beats of music. Apart from the games, cultural programs like folk dance, singing, and skits were also organized. Students showcased their talents in these activities and entertained the audience with their performances. The faculty members, along with students, dressed themselves in colourful ethnic wear. As part of the celebration,’ Chakara Pongal’ was prepared in clay pots and offered it to God ceremoniously in a ritual and served it to students, teachers and support staff. Kite flying, and the artistic talents of the students were showcased by the students in village set up adding to the fun and frolic of the festivities. The highlight of the cultural program was a traditional folk dance performance by the girls' team, which received a thunderous applause from the audience. Dr.B.Murali Krishna, the principal and the director Dr.A. Chandra sekhar graced the occasion and tasted the pongali prepared by the students and faculty. In his address, the principal emphasized the significance of celebrating festivals and preserving the rich traditions and culture of India. He appreciated the efforts of the students in organizing the event and congratulated them for their teamwork and spirit. The songs, dances and skit, depicted the significance of the Harvest Festival. The highlight of the day was the bullock cart ride, village set up, Hari dasu and pongal bonfire. Former chairman of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam Shri. Y.V. Subba Reddy, Chairman of Avanthi Colleges, Sri M. Avanthi Srinivasa Rao, General Secretary of Avanthi colleges Dr. M. Priyanka, and other members lit the Pongal bonfire and took part in the festivities. Prizes were distributed to winners and runners of different competitions. In conclusion, the pre-Pongal celebration at Avanthi Institute of Engineering and Technology was a grand success, which brought together students, faculty and well-wishers in the celebration of the festival with great joy and enthusiasm. The event not only helped in strengthening the bond of friendship and brotherhood, but also enabled them to learn more about our rich cultural heritage which has been passed on to us from our ancestors. The entire campus wore a festive look with colourful Rangoli, decorated Pongal pots, sugarcanes and other decorations enhancing the festival sprit.
